Entre la naturaleza

CONCEPT

Defined by the topography, preservation of trees, and connection with fauna, Entre la Naturaleza presents a solution to rural life by harmonising domestic living with nature. Underpinning the design response to the competition brief is three core aspects: (I) Protection and Reflection (II) Concealment and Exposure (III) Integration and Dynamism.

(I) Whilst the proposal seeks to integrate a family with nature, total exposure in isolation can cause psychological discomfort. Using the design approach of protection and reflection, users will find security in the thick exterior walls which have been implemented to provide moments of refuge within the elements of nature. Moreover, the orientation and composition of walls open outward towards nature which offers clear views of the users' surroundings and the ability to form a relationship between them. The living areas are consciously stark as the overall masterplan encourages users to continuously look out at nature in all its glorious aspects.

(II) The incorporation of concealed and exposed spaces within the proposal seeks to fully intertwine the user's lifestyle with nature. Entre la Naturaleza aspires to awaken individuals by intermittently exposing them to the outdoor elements. The act of experiencing sharp and sudden changes to the user's senses aims to improve their mental well-being and involvement with the site. Forcing users to go outside when moving between vital internal spaces by incorporating external areas employs a technique of total immersion whereby the user is constantly alert, refreshed and at one with their surroundings.

(III) By using the topography to sink various portions of the scheme within the earth and implementing grass, the proposal seeks to merge the visual boundaries of nature with the built environment. Moreover, the level-changing introduces a dynamic relationship between spaces for the users as they navigate through the scheme. The circulatory routes are informed by panoramas of the river and woodland areas. Moreover, incorporating natural elements of woodland integrates the proposal with the topography and also seeks to encourage wildlife to form a relationship with the familial spaces. Due to the high volume and variety of birds that live along the Paraná River, Entre la Naturaleza becomes a form of observatory which looks across the tree lines of the riverbanks for the family to gaze at.
